Tips for Pittsburgh Potholes

Let's face it, we try to avoid potholes. Inevitably you will not see one in time, or can't safely avoid it. I'll keep this blog short and sweet so this will stick in your mind.

DO NOT HAVE THE BRAKE APPLIED WHILE HITTING THE POTHOLE! This is what causes the most damage. Blown tires, bent wheels, and bent suspension parts. If you have the brake applied, the tire wants to stop in the pothole. The rest of the car keeps on going. Brake hard before it, release!

CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE! This is especially important when the weather turns colder. Most

cars now have TPMS, this doesn't mean they will inflate themselves. When your tire pressures is low, you are far more likely to bend a wheel when striking a pothole.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO HIT IT, HIT IT SQUARELY. The worst thing to do is try to swerve, only to put the tire in to the hole while the wheel is turned. You want the tread of the tire to hit the edge, not the side-wall or wheel.
