Wheel Balance Symptoms

There is only one symptom of improper balance. It is vibration. If a front wheel is not in balance, you will feel it in the steering wheel. If it is a rear wheel, you will feel it in the seat of your pants. There are varying degrees of imbalance. It can be up and down, side to side, or both. Vehicle speed is the only thing that will affect it. If the vibration is only on acceleration, it is a driveline vibration.

When new tires are mounted on wheels, they must be balanced. It only takes 2 ounces or less of wheel weights to achieve balance with a quality tire, and a straight wheel.

The most common complaint is the steering wheel "shimmies" at highway speed. Sometimes it is only a very specific speed. Going faster or slower will cure it. This is a minor imbalance. You can have just the front tires done, but its best to have all 4 done.

As you may have guessed, balancing requires a large machine. I can not do this at your location.
